About Us

Four friends, two couples, one dream

The story begins in the late 1990s when Johnny and Danny met through a common friend in St Marks Place in Manhattan. St Marks Place was a hotspot for punk rockers offering record stores, cheap bars and alternative clothing stores. Born in Peru, Danny had been living in South Florida and Johnny was a native New Yorker from Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Two quick witted punks quickly struck a friendship. Being a lifelong musician, Johnny has probably been in half of the punk bands of New York City punk scene, fronting the Krays for over 25 years, and recording and producing plenty of others in addition.

It only seemed natural that when Danny moved to NYC, he would ask Johnny to play in his band and he agreed. One more band doesn’t hurt, eh? And for the next 20 years they shared the stage.

In 2004, Colombian born Camila also moved to NYC from South Florida. Her and Johnny met and started to date soon after, they married in 2005. Camila worked in the restaurant field, climbing through the ranks of the kitchen until she became the Chef de Cuisine at ABC Cocina in Union Square, Manhattan. Her credits are impressive and too long to list here, so we won’t do that, mostly because she’s extremely modest.

In 2007 the final piece of the puzzle comes in: Katri from Kouvola, Finland was on a nanny job in the U.S. and spent all her weekends in the buzz of NYC, just taking in all the culture and energy. She met Danny through the music scene and they quickly married. Much like Camila, Katri climbed her way up from waitress to restaurant manager, switching to the healthcare field through networking, and eventually becoming a COO of an independent medical laboratory.

Throughout the years, these four individuals traveled together, played in bands together, carpooled, cat sat, laughed and cried together. There has been creative processes, illnesses and worries but a ton of good times (and eating!)

In 2020, Katri and Danny decided that even though they love New York City, it was time to leave the U.S. and create something on their own.

A foretelling dream led to a lighthearted conversation with Camila and Johnny, who quickly decided to jump on board of a wild project. The idea of BK Bodega was born and after many, many challenges it finally came in to completion in September of 2024.

It’s been a long road of planning, but we are finally here.

Come join us, we hope to see you soon!
